Hello,
I am trying to create a new database. On my machine there are already 2 databases. This is the 3rd one to be created.
I have done the the following pre requirements for creating the database.
1) created the dumbs directory
2)init.ora (modified)
3)scripts for creating the database are ready
Now my question is about orapwd.
1) Do we have to run the password file password.sh ?
If yes how ?
2)Is the password file created on its own when the
database is run like control file?
3)Do I also need to create orapwd directory under
file ?
Thanks in advance for your time and help
regards,
Rekha

The best thing is to use 'dbassist' 8i or 'dbca' for oracle 9i to create the scripts. Make sure you selected custom database creation and fill in all the designated path values for files. One the script is created open them all and replace all 'SID' with $1 where $1 is the commandline argument. Usually the first script invokes all other. This way you don't have to manually do much work.
