Hi,
Thanks very much for the wonderful solution, but I'm sorry to convey you
that I can't use ref cusror , as it is Developer 2000 system.
And If I use it in a backend function, then the performance will be affected.
As the function will be called for each record locked.
Could u please confirm me that whether it is a bug in Developer 2000
that the alert comes and the alert is not getting trapped.
Or could u pls. help me how to trap the alert and the FRM-40501 error ?
Thanks
Padma

1. IMHO, it is *NOT* a bug, at least not a Forms bug. When I tested the issue, and I omitted the ON-LOCK, there was no problem.
2. The procedure is only being called whenever you LOCK a record. Furthermore it does a select by ROWID which is, in my knowledge the fastest access path. If this affects your performance too much, you should consider reviewing your application... . Are you sure you tested it?
As I told you before, perhaps it is time to contact Oracle's support (metalink.oracle.com) and open an ITar to get a proper reply.
Sorry, but I can't help you any further, I'm out of ideas. Perhaps someone else has a fresh point of view...
