hi i am new to oracle and i have doubt why we use password file, what is it purpose can any one please guide me

thanks, and when we are exporting a database or doing RMAN when creating a catalog file why we have to use passwordfile.

You only need it for SYS* connnections.
So:
- to export database, you don't need it
- to use RMAN, you have to connect "as sysdba"
